The DAISY Award is an international award that recognizes the super-human work nurses do for our Veterans and their families every day. This award gives staff, patients, and families a way to express their gratitude for the compassionate environment Nurses provide. Their exceptional and compassionate care is demonstrated by the VA’s core values of Integrity, Commitment, Advocacy, Respect and Excellence. All VA Indiana Healthcare System RNs and LPNs are eligible for this award.

The DAISY Foundation was formed in November, 1999, by the family of J. Patrick Barnes who died at age 33 of complications of Idiopathic Thrombocytopenic Purpura (ITP). The nursing care Patrick received when hospitalized profoundly touched his family, motivating them to start The DAISY Foundation. Read more about their heartwarming vision.
