The Oscar G. Johnson VA Medical Center (OGJVAMC) hosted musical guest, Jodi Bloom during its June monthly social for Veterans and caregivers.

Jodi is a retired nurse, turned caregiver, turned songwriter, and shared her experiences through her music. Jodi’s story and personal background lends itself to a very intimate look at just how overwhelming being a caregiver can be physically, emotionally, and mentally. Jodi has been inspired to share her journey through song as a direct result of watching her Grammy-award-winning husband’s musical ability decline. Through that heartbreak and loss, she has written and arranged with her husband, many songs that illustrate the uncertainty and self-doubt that finds its way into the mindset of the caregiver.

Bloom’s music engaged everyone who was present in the room, fostered powerful discussions amongst caregivers, created bonds and the staff left feeling rejuvenated and fulfilled with their purpose to support Veterans and Caregivers. Members of the Oscar G. Johnson VAMC Caregiver Support Program (CSP) team were honored to have a caregiver share her passion and gift with attendees.

The CSP and Voluntary Service offer a monthly coffee social for Veterans and caregivers to socialize, enjoy refreshments and activities. Previous activities include an indoor picnic, creating artwork, fair games and music.

Veterans and caregivers are welcome to attend monthly Caregiver Support Social held the second Wednesday of the month from 11:00 a.m.-12:30 p.m. in room 5150 at the OGJVAMC located at 325 E H Street, Iron Mountain, MI.
