Dr. Zurab Guruli is serving as the Chief of Anesthesiology Department for G.V. (Sonny Montgomery) VA Medical Center since December 2006.
Dr. Zurab Guruli is serving as the Chief of Anesthesiology Department for G.V. (Sonny Montgomery) VA Medical Center since December 2006. He was transferred from New Orleans VA after hurricane “Katrina”, where he served as a staff anesthesiologist. Dr. Guruli is an experienced physician and leader with 18 years of staff physician experience.
Dr. Guruli graduated Tbilisi State Medical University (Republic of Georgia) in 1991. He received his PhD degree in immunology from Tbilisi Medical Academy (Advanced Training Institute for Physicians) in 1995. 1995-1996 Dr. Guruli served as a visiting fellow in Pediatric Surgery at LSU and New Orleans Children’s Hospital. 1996-2000 was working as a research fellow at St. Phillip’s Clinic, LA. 2000-2001 – Internship at Michigan State University general surgery program; 2001-2004 residency and cardio-vascular anesthesia fellowship at Tulane University anesthesiology department.
Dr. Guruli is a clinical professor of anesthesiology at UMMC. He is teaching residents and student nurse anesthetists. Dr. Guruli is an experienced clinical manager and has been awarded twice with “Nike Award” and three times “Clinical Manager of the Year” award. Currently he serves as a president of Georgian-American Medical and Public Health Association (GAMPHA).
