RN and LPN Hiring Fair proves major success at Jackson VA

Nurse Recruitment Table
By Camille Weston, Public Affairs Officer

On Apr. 6, applicants lined up outside of the Montgomery Hall at the G.V. (Sonny) Montgomery VA Medical Center (VAMC) for the in-person Registered Nurse and Licensed Practical Nurse Hiring Fair.

Each applicant was greeted by Deputy Associate Director for Patient Care Services LaTrouna Tobias, as they anxiously awaited the first interview.

Throughout the event, applicants met with G.V. (Sonny) Montgomery VAMC nursing staff from several inpatient units and conducted on-the-spot interviews with leadership. Nearly a dozen top candidates received tentative job offers and began their onboarding process with human resources staff before leaving the hiring fair.

“Overall, the event was a huge success,” said Tobias. “Our current employees are the greatest recruiters that we have. In fact, the majority of today’s applicants were referred to the job fair by current staff who encouraged them to apply.”

Due to the overwhelmingly positive feedback from potential hires and current staff, the nurse recruitment and retention committee plans to host another nurse hiring fair soon.

It was an excellent opportunity to open our doors to the nursing community, showcase our facility and encourage nurses to join us in service to our Veterans.
