Chelsea Childress was appointed as the Acting Deputy Director of the VA Long Beach Healthcare System on September 1, 2024.
Previously, Ms. Childress served as the Associate Director, Resources at the VA Greater Los Angeles Healthcare System from August 2022. Prior to this position, she served as the principal advisor to the VA Chief of Staff, providing advice and guidance regarding the development of actions plans and the establishment of milestones for the accomplishment of major actions and the implementation of assigned initiatives by the VA Secretary. During her time at VA Central Office, Ms. Childress has also served as a Special Assistant in Mission Operations coordinating high level missions for the Secretary, Deputy Secretary, and Chief of Staff.
During her time in VHA, Ms. Childress served as the Supervisory Health System Specialist to the Medical Center Director at the VA Loma Linda Healthcare System and the VA Texas Valley Coastal Bend Healthcare System. In these positions, she had responsibility for the direct supervision and management of Strategic Planning, System Redesign, Data Management, Public Affairs, and Customer Service.
Ms. Childress began her VA career at the VA Texas Valley Coastal Bend Healthcare System as a Graduate Healthcare Administration Training Program Fellow. Following her fellowship, she served as the Administrative Office for Surgery and Medicine Services.
Throughout her VA career she has also served in a wide range of acting capacities such as the Associate Director for Resources, Assistant Director, Operations Administrator, and the Administrative Officer for Mental Health, the Corpus Christi Outpatient and Specialty Clinics.
Ms. Childress holds a Master of Business Administration Degree from Texas A&M University – Corpus Christi with a concentration in Health Care Administration. She is a member of the American College of Healthcare Executives and is a graduate of the Health Care Leadership Development Program, VISN 17 Leadership Development Institute, and the Graduate Healthcare Administration Training Program.
