Madison Gerofit Program

Gerofit demonstration

Can women Veterans participate in Gerofit? YES! Gerofit is a free, supervised exercise program offered to Veterans 65 years and older with exercises focused to improve cardiovascular health, strength, balance, and flexibility.

It is a new program to the Madison VA hospital but has been in the VA system for over 35 years. Although it is an exercise program, many Veterans have found it to be so much more. Gerofit offers high-quality exercise classes with additional education in whole health topics, giving you insight into improving your health beyond Gerofit. Gerofit also offers a sense of community among Veterans with one common goal: striving to be the best person you can be.

If you currently struggle with weakness, fatigue, falls, decreasing independence, diabetes, cardiovascular disease, pulmonary disease or other medical problems, Gerofit could be an excellent solution. Exercise is a form of medicine and is an important component of your medical care to improve your quality of life and physical function.

A female Gerofitter had this to say about the program. "I was struggling with almost zero fitness and poor balance in August of 2021. I started Gerofit! And it has given me confidence to fight my way back from being a 'Gero-Zero' to a 'Gero-Hero'! I give this program five stars!"

You have an incredible opportunity to take greater ownership of your own health and join the Gerofit community. We are growing as a program and we are looking to continually improve Gerofit for the benefit of our Veterans. We are currently offering virtual classes on Monday, Wednesday and Thursday mornings.
