Mary Anderson, RN, MSN, was appointed to the position of Associate Director for Patient and Nursing Services of the VA Maine in January 2023.
Ms. Anderson previously served as Associate Director of Patient/Nursing Service at VA Bedford Healthcare System in Bedford, MA since 2014. As a key member of the senior executive leadership team, she was involved in strategic planning, organizational assessment, and program development. She was also responsible for establishing standards of nursing practice to ensure quality nursing care.
Ms. Anderson’s service to the Veterans Health Administration began in 2005 at VA Maine. She previously held nursing leadership positions at VA Maine as Community Based Outpatient Clinic Manager, Infection Prevention Program Manager, and Deputy Nurse Executive providing clinical and operational oversight to acute and long-term care.
Ms. Anderson also worked in various clinical areas in the community, including Director of Homecare/ Hospice Agency, Emergency Department Nurse Manager, Medical/Surgical nursing, Intensive Care Unit nursing, Pediatrics, and Oncology.
Throughout her career, Ms. Anderson has been active in initiatives to improve quality of patient care, patient satisfaction, safe medication administration, infection prevention, and access to care. She's an active participant on committees and programs at both the regional and national level. Ms. Anderson holds a bachelor's degree in Nursing from the University of Southern Maine and a master's degree in Nursing from Saint Joseph's College. She is also a member of the Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing.
