VA Manchester honors America’s fallen heroes during annual Memorial Day ceremony

PRESS RELEASE

May 30, 2024

Manchester , NH — Hundreds of Veterans, family members, caregivers, and community members from across the Granite State traveled near and far to attend the Manchester VA Medical Center’s Memorial Day Ceremony, May 27, 2024, to honor and remember America’s fallen heroes.

“Today, we gather with a sense of reverence and gratitude, united by a shared purpose—to honor the brave men and women who have made the ultimate sacrifice in service to our nation,” shared Associate Director Julie Vose during opening remarks.

“With our hearts filled with pride and sorrow, we remember that behind every name etched in stone, behind every flag-draped coffin, lies a story of courage, dedication, and selflessness,” said Vose.

The annual Memorial Day ceremony not only allows the community to come together to honor, remember, and pay tribute to America’s fallen service members, it is also an opportunity to recognize and support family members of Granite State Veterans who lost their lives in the past year.

Manchester City Mayor Jay Ruais and New Hampshire congressional delegation representatives spoke alongside Vose recognizing the legacy of those who have served in our nation’s military and made the ultimate sacrifice for our country.

“Memorial Day is a solemn occasion, a time to reflect on the profound courage and unwavering dedication of those who have laid down their lives for the freedoms we cherish,” shared Ruais.

A wreath presentation led by Gold Star family member Stephanie Ouellette, accompanied by Vose, reminds us of the ultimate sacrifice of service members and their families.

“To the families of our fallen heroes, we acknowledge your immeasurable loss,” stated Vose.

The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Color Guard framed the remembrance wreath display, followed by the conclusion of the event with the Manchester Memorial High School Band playing Silver Taps.
