A Birthday Celebration for Veteran Clyde Edwards
Today, we had the privilege of honoring Veteran, Mr. Clyde Edwards. Mr. Edwards celebrated his 101st birthday on March 11, 2024.
Mr. Edwards served as a Private 1st class in the 2nd Marine Division during World War II. Throughout his military service, Mr. Edwards was a skilled heavy equipment operator, contributing significantly to the war effort with his expertise and dedication.
Clyde was surprised at the Heartland clinic, as he was welcomed by our staff, wearing Cardinals Jerseys in support of Clyde, since that’s his favorite baseball team. Clyde was also accompanied by three of his loving children.
Director Sage was in attendance to present Clyde with a plaque and letter from the Secretary of the VA.
The plaque read:
“Our Nation honors your service as a Private First Class and Heavy Equipment Operator in the United States Marine Corps during WWII. You are part of this country’s “greatest Generation” for your legacy of patriotism and honor. Americans enjoy the blessings of peace an liberty because of patriots like you and who answered the call to defend our Nation. We remain grateful to you and your generation for helping defend democracy and shaping the world we live in today.
The sacrifices you have made, and the accomplishments of your military career are held in the highest esteem. You are very much honored and appreciated for all you have done. I understand you live by your strong faith and are active in your church, as well as an avid fan of the Cardinals baseball team. We join your VA health care professionals, family, and friends in celebrating your life and your service to America.”
Do you have a Veteran who will be turning 100? Or maybe you have a Veteran who has already passed that milestone!
