Affectionately known as "Mayor McCormick" in the small town, the 100-year-old veteran was surrounded by family, friends, and members of the VA to commemorate his extraordinary life.
In a heartwarming celebration, the community of Olive Branch, Illinois, came together on July 27th to honor the remarkable milestone of Centenarian Neil McCormick. Affectionately known as "Mayor McCormick" in the small town, the 100-year-old veteran was surrounded by family, friends, and members of the VA to commemorate his extraordinary life.
Mr. McCormick, who served for 3 years in the U.S. Army during World War II, was accompanied by his beloved wife to the special event. It was a true pleasure and honor for the community to present him with a framed letter and coin from Dennis McDonough, the Secretary of Veterans Affairs, in recognition of his dedicated service and lifetime of achievements.
Adding to the celebration, Mr. McCormick was also gifted a beautiful quilt from the Hands and Hearts for Heroes organization, a heartfelt gesture to honor his century of service and sacrifice.
