DAV Van Donation
Keep an eye out for our new Van in the Kentucky area.
Our Volunteer Transportation Network has just received a van replacement for our Kentucky area Veterans. This time, the DAV donation came from a national source.
We have been replacing many of the old ones over the past three to four years and working with Al Reynolds, our Illinois DAV State Adjutant. Al has been wonderful and has acquired many of our vehicles for us – mostly for Illinois.
Our van in Mayfield was a 2006 and in bad shape which made it difficult to recruit new drivers in the area. Voluntary Service Officer, Maria Buehler, reached out to Al to see if there was any way they could help Marion VA attain a newer vehicle out of cycle. Al managed to find a vehicle to replace our older vehicle, and we could not be more grateful.
On hand to help make the donation on behalf of the DAV was Marion VA’s very own 2022 Volunteer of the Year, Steven Ward. In addition to Steven Ward, the Illinois- Mt. Vernon DAV Chapter 28, Centralia Il Chapter 76 and Centralia Auxiliary unit 76, were all on station to support the DAV Van Donation.
Enter VA volunteer, Jim Daugherty, AKA, the face of Mayfield. The CDCE jokes about him being the face of Mayfield because as the volunteer driver, he sees and speaks with many of our Veterans in that area. And this volunteer driver now gets to drive a brand-new DAV van for his area of coverage.
The Marion VA would like to thank the DAV, and our volunteers for going above and beyond for our Veterans.
