Fighting Hunger with the VA2K Pantry Drive

VA2K donations
By Willy Martinez, Public Affairs Specialist

Look who’s joining us in our fight against Veteran hunger. Although Georges St-Pierre couldn’t join us in person, our staff have evoked his fighting spirit in their pantry drive box decorations!

Marion VA staff have taken it upon themselves to join the VA2K “Stuff the Bus” efforts by creatively decorating their collection boxes.

Angela Mann, Supervisory Medical Support Assistant shares, “I always enjoy working with the Nutrition Service and Employee Health when the VA2K happens, and being able to participate and watch the community come together. Now that I am a supervisor, I thought I would encourage employee engagement and wanted to have some fun while doing it!”

The VA2K and Health fair is a 1.2 mile walk and pantry drive for Veterans in need, with the bonus of a health fair centered around the needs of our Veterans.

“Everyone in our department has enjoyed the ability to be creative and we are excited to participate at the VA2K and Health Fair on May 18th” shares Angela.

At the health fair, Veterans, caregivers, and staff will have the opportunity to learn more about our Veteran services, such as: Caregiver Support, Whole Health, Nutrition, Women’s Health Services, Suicide Prevention, COVID and pneumonia vaccines, Toxic Exposure Screening, Employee Health and Employee Assistance Program, Minority Veteran Program, My healtheVet, LGBTQ, Chaplain Service, and more!

Join the 13th Annual VA2K and Health Fair, and make a positive impact on your life! Not only will you be improving your own health, but you'll also be giving back to those who have given so much for us. Show your gratitude and become part of something bigger — let’s support our Veterans together!

Community Partners, if you or your business/team/church would like to take up a collection for our Veterans but cannot be at this event, please reach out to the Center for Development and Civic Engagement at (618) 993 – 4121, between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 4:30 p.m., on weekdays.
