Women's History Month traces its beginnings back to the first International Women's Day in 1911.

The week-long event officially became a month-long one in 1987 when Congress passed a resolution designating March as Women’s History Month. Women’s History Month has been celebrated in the United States every March since.

We will be highlighting the Federal Women Employees of the Marion VA Health Care System throughout the month.

Federal Women Employee Special Emphasis Program Manager

Name: Melody Neideffer

Position: Marion VA, Radiology Department Tomography Technologist

I have been an employee of the Marion VA Medical Center since January of 2011. I am a computed tomography technologist working in the imaging department. I am an American Registered Radiologic Technologist that graduated with an associate of applied science in radiology in May of 1998. I am honored to be an employee of the VA helping take care of the veterans that have made several sacrifices. The VA provides the latest state of the art equipment. It has been an inspiration to me being a part of the VA family. It gives me great honor to be a part of a family of co-workers that provide the best care possible to our veterans. I am so proud to say that I work for a facility that provides excellent care to our veterans.

I have been an employee for thirteen years in the radiology department. I joined the Special Emphasis team in February of 2022. I am the Special Emphasis Program Manager for the Federal

Women’s Program. This program has been an enjoyable learning experience for me. The other SEPMs, I have meet are nice and always willing to help each other. I selected being a federal employee because I have several service members that are in my family.

A positive impact this job has had on me is giving me a chance to evolve to a better professional. This facility has offered me so many opportunities to help pave a pathway to a successful career as a federal employee. I am proud to be a part of an organization that promotes an environment of diversity and inclusion promoting gender equality.
