Random Act of Kindness for new VA Primary Care Chief
A sunny day and a random act of kindness brightens the day at the Marion VA.
Today the sun was out, and everyone seemed to be enjoying the day. For Dr. Megan Neely, our new Chief of Primary Care, a random act of kindness brightened her day even more.
Dr. Neely received a call from the information desk informing her that someone had a package for her. She made her way to the front entrance of the medical center and was greeted by Vietnam Veteran Mr. Dale Hartman. He recently read of her selection for Chief of Primary Care in the local newspaper and took it upon himself to frame the paper and bring it to the medical center to give to Dr. Neely.
Dr. Neely was pleasantly surprised at the gesture. She told Mr. Hartman "I Love it, and I will hang this up in my new office". She was so moved by the gesture that she asked Mr. Hartman for a hug and thanked him again for his act.
When asked about his idea, Hartman replied "us retired engineers need to keep busy, I love doing woodwork." He also took the opportunity to thank the Marion VA for all they have done for him over the years. He is a proud patient of our Primacy Care Clinic in Carbondale, IL. He loves the care he gets there as well as the care throughout our health care system. "I have been coming here for 35 plus years and can't say a bad thing about any of it. I appreciate all that you do for us Veterans."
