Martinsburg , WV — On June 13, 2024, the Martinsburg VA Medical Center received its 4th Pathway to Excellence designation from the American Nurses Credentialing Center.
On June 13, 2024, the Martinsburg VA Medical Center received its 4th Pathway to Excellence designation from the American Nurses Credentialing Center. This prestigious designation represents the commitment that Martinsburg nurses, in collaboration with the entire Martinsburg VA team, provide to Veterans.
In 2011, Martinsburg became the first VA Medical Center in the country to receive the ANCC Pathway to Excellence designation. They remain one of only 12 VA Medical Centers and one of only 218 healthcare organizations overall to have achieved this designation.
The ANCC Pathway to Excellence designation is awarded to facilities that demonstrate the six Pathway standards of Shared Decision-Making, Leadership, Safety, Quality, Well-Being, and Professional Development in the everyday culture. Facilities designated as Pathway to Excellence demonstrate a commitment to creating a positive practice environment and shared decision making.
“Our nursing staff persevere and excel despite any challenge. I am beyond proud of this team and the care they provide to Veterans,” said Sandra Sullivan, Chief Nursing Officer of the Martinsburg VA Medical Center. “They are world class and are so very deserving of this recognition.”
In a letter of congratulations to the Martinsburg VA Medical Center, Dr. Christine Pabico, Director of the ANCC Pathway to Excellence Program, writes, “Working in a Pathway-designated organization means you work in an environment of excellence focused on quality and interprofessional collaboration. You set a global quality standard and rank among the best nurses in the world. A Pathway environment is a wonderful place for nurses to work.”
