Sheila Bryson-Eckroade was appointed as Chief Quality Officer of Quality, Safety and Value for the VA Maryland Health Care System effective October 10, 2021.
She previously served as the Associate Director for Patient Care Services/Chief Nurse Executive for the health care system since May 2012 where she was responsible for the provision, coordination and supervision of Nursing, Sterile Processing, and Social Work Services.
As the Chief Quality Officer, Ms. Bryson-Eckroade leads the day-to-day operations of Quality, Performance Improvement and Accreditation, Risk Management, Patient Safety, Infection Control, Utilization Management, Systems Redesign and High Reliability Organization (HRO) for the health care system. Her primary areas of responsibility include planning, coordinating and evaluating the operations of these program offices.
Born and raised in Greensboro, North Carolina, Ms. Bryson-Eckroade received her education, including both baccalaureate and master’s degrees, from the University of North Carolina, Greensboro. She has held positions at both community and investor-owned health systems in her 43 plus years in the health care arena. Ms. Bryson-Eckroade has experience in nursing administration, education and patient safety/risk management.
