Congratulations to the Maryland Warriors – the fierce and competitive team of Veterans from the VA Maryland Health Care System that participated in the National Veterans Golden Age Game held in Des Moines, Iowa last month.

Wearing matching t-shirts with a new team name that reflects their tough (but friendly) fighting spirit, Veteran patients from the VA Maryland Health Care System—the “Maryland Warriors”—are in Des Moines, Iowa for the National Veterans Golden Age Games.

Daniel Shimp, 63, a Navy Veteran, knew he needed to lose weight. Struggling with some health issues related to injuries sustained during his 7.5-year Navy career and missing a calf on one leg, he needed a knee replacement, but his weight prohibited the procedure.

On Monday, April 10, 2023, the President signed into law H.J. Res. 7 which ended the national emergency related to the COVID-19 pandemic.
