Dr. James (Jim) Hay is the Acting Associate Director for Patient Care Services (ADPCS) for the Montana VA Health Care System (MTVAHCS).

With over 33 years in Nursing, he comes from the Roseburg VA Health Care System as the Associate Chief Nurse Executive, Ambulatory Care Nursing. He originally joined the VA in 2007, as nurse educator at the National Center for Patient Safety. After completing his doctoral degree in Education, he relocated to Roseburg VA Health Care System as the Education Director. In 2016, he received the Under-Secretary for Health “Excellence in Clinical Simulation Training, Education and Research” - Executive Leadership Award then transitioned into Ambulatory care leadership. During the first months of the pandemic, he completed a two-week FEMA/DEMPS deployment to the COVID Intensive Care Unit at Yuma Regional Medical Center in Yuma, AZ.

 

Dr. Hay retired from the U.S. Army Reserves in April 2022 as a Mission Command Instructor at the rank of Major. He initially served 3 years on active duty as a paratrooper. He continued for a total of 18 years as an enlisted Soldier and earned the rank of Sergeant First Class. In 2002, he commissioned as an officer in the U.S. Army Nurse Corps serving 20 years. He mobilized from the reserves during OEF and was assigned to Walter Reed Army Medical Center. During his tour in Washington D.C., he cared for wounded warriors and their families. He also prepared nurses for deployment and received the DOD certificate for “Best Critical Care Instructor.” 

 

Dr. Hay completed graduate education in nursing and education from the University of Phoenix. He is nationally certified as Executive of Nursing Practice and Rehabilitation Nursing. He lives in the hills of southwestern Oregon. He loves to fish and hike, traveling across the country, with his chocolate Lab, Teddy.
