Emergency care during federal holidays

Montana VA Health Care System’s Emergency Department is open 24/7, 365 days a year. If you have a medical or mental health emergency, please call 911, the Veterans Crisis Line at 988 then press 1, or go to the nearest emergency department.

If you are unsure about going to an emergency room, call VA Health Connect at 406-442-6410 to talk to a nurse about your issue, get advice and plan for care. If needed, VA can send an ambulance to your location.

If you go to a non-VA facility for emergency care, you must follow certain rules so that we can cover the cost of your care. Ask the ER staff to notify us right away in either of these ways:

We must get the notification within 72 hours of when your emergency care starts. We prefer that the provider notify us. But if they don’t, you or someone acting on your behalf can notify us instead. Learn more about getting emergency care at non-VA facilities.

Thank you for your service. We are honored to serve you!
