Ms. Cancel-Santiago was appointed as the Deputy Executive Director at the VA New York Harbor Healthcare System in July 2023.
Ms. Cancel-Santiago was formerly the Associate Medical Center Director and served as the Interim Medical Center Executive Director of the James J. Peters VA Medical Center.
Prior to her appointments, Ms. Cancel-Santiago was the Chief of Virtual Health where she provided strategic guidance and direction for developing telemedicine infrastructure. Her efforts helped the James J. Peters VA Medical Center lead the nation on virtual care metrics. She has held various leadership roles in the VA, with responsibility for managing a budget of over $400 million and approximately 1800 employees in both administrative and clinical activities across several services such as Surgery, Women’s Health, Social Work, and Dental.
Ms. Cancel-Santiago is a graduate of the 2020 Federal Executive Institute, holds a Master of Public Administration in Health Policy/Management from New York University and earned her undergraduate degree with honors (Magna Cum Laude) in Business Administration with emphasis in Management from Mercy College. Certifications include: VHA Mentor, Mediator and Clinic Video Master Preceptor.
