On June 12th the National Office of Nursing Services (ONS) Director, Dr. Jennifer Strawn, and the VISN 8 Chief Nursing Officer, Rebecca Tiffault, visited the Malcom Randall VA Medical Center to interact with leadership and visit clinical staff.

ONS provides national leadership, guidance, and strategic direction for anything nursing-related. During the visit, Dr. Strawn was led through the facility by Tenna Liston, Associate Director of Patient Care Services, and Dr. Kimberly Gerling, Acting Deputy Nurse Executive. Dr. Strawn was able to visit with multiple patient care teams and their respective areas.

“North Florida South Georgia Veterans Health System has exceptional nursing staff providing extraordinary nursing care,” said Liston. “Strawn’s visit was the perfect opportunity for our staff to share all the things they are proud of in their areas.”

Considering Dr. Strawn’s national role, she was thrilled to be able to visit the Malcom Randall VAMC for the first time. This site visit was a special one, where six different nurses were recognized and coined by Dr. Strawn for their devotion to the nursing profession and their strong commitment to providing excellent care to Veterans.

“We spent some time recognizing outstanding nurses and giving them the ONS challenge coin, which was a wonderful opportunity and a pleasure to do,” said Dr. Strawn.

Dr. Strawn went on to praise the nursing teams she met with during her visit. “This is amazing work that the nurses are doing in a variety of settings, not only problem-solving but looking at it from a performance improvement and process improvement standpoint by making things better not only for nurses but most importantly for Veterans,” said Dr. Strawn.

North Florida/South Georgia VHS always strives to provide world-class care to all Veterans. Dr. Strawn’s positive words just further solidify the amazing work our clinical staff puts forward for the Veterans we serve. We will continue to deliver our promise of providing the best care possible to Veterans.
