We would like to announce our newest Chief Medical Officer for Ocala Community Based Operations Clinic in Ocala, Fl.

Dr. Sandra Jean-Charles was born in Kingston, Jamaica where she graduated from Kingston Technical High School.  After immigrating to the United States, she enlisted in the United States Army where she served as a Combat Medic at Fort Bliss' William Beaumont Army Medical Center in El Paso, Texas and the 121st Evacuation Hospital in Seoul, South Korea.

After being honorably discharged, she earned a bachelor’s degree in Medical Technologist from Morgan State University while serving as a reservist in the National Guard.  She continued her military service while working as a Medical Technologist with the NYU-Bellevue Hospital and NY Blood Center.

Dr. Jean-Charles went on to attend Ross University School of Medicine and completed her residency in Internal Medicine Residency in Internal Medicine at St. Barnabas’ Monmouth Medical Center in Long Branch, New Jersey.  She became a diplomate of the American Board of Internal Medicine and continues to maintain active certification status with the board.

Dr. Jean-Charles was a founding member of a private internal medicine group in Delray Beach, Florida.  Her experience combined traditional primary care practice with hospital medicine coverage at three local hospitals for nearly a decade before joining the VA.  She has worked as a full-time primary care physician at the Malcolm Randall VAMC since 2011, providing the highest quality of care to Veterans like herself.  She joined the Ocala CBOC in 2020 and has served as their Acting Chief of Primary Care since December 2022.
