Cave appointed new CEO for Veterans health care in North Texas region

Arlington , TX — Jason Cave appointed Executive Medical Center Director for VA North Texas Health Care System, Veterans Integrated Service Network (VISN) 17, Dallas, Texas.

The US Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) has announced the appointment of Jason Cave, J.D., as the new executive medical center director for VA North Texas Health Care System in Dallas, Texas.

"Mr. Cave's leadership as the new executive medical center director for VA North Texas ensures delivery of timely access to world-class health care for the Veterans we are honored to serve," said VA Heart of Texas Healthcare Network Director Wendell Jones, MD, MBA, FACP, CPE. "His multi-faceted experience and strategic lens will be valuable for this health care system, the employees, and most importantly, our Veteran clients."

As the executive medical center director of the nation's second-largest VA health care system, Cave is responsible for leading facilities in Dallas, Garland, and Bonham, and ten community-based VA clinics in Dallas, Decatur, Denton, Fort Worth, Granbury, Grand Prairie, Greenville, Plano, Sherman, and Tyler. With an annual operating budget of approximately $1.8 billion6,600 staff, and 1,500 volunteers, VA North Texas provides care to almost 206,000 enrolled Veterans throughout its 40-county service area.

Mr. Cave previously served as the chief executive officer of the West Texas VA Health Care System in Big Spring, Texas, and had been the acting CEO for South Texas Veterans Health Care System in San Antonio since June 2022.

Cave has held key leadership positions within VA since joining in 2011 as a Presidential Management Fellow. He has served VA Medical Centers of all complexity levels across three VISNs and VA Central Office. In addition, he has performed in various capacities, including health systems specialist, financial manager, general attorney, public affairs officer, and emergency manager.

Mr. Cave graduated from VISN 4's Leadership Development Institute in 2013, Leadership VA in 2016, and VHA's Health Care Leadership Development Program in 2019. He holds an undergraduate degree in accounting from the University of New Mexico and a Juris Doctor from the University of Akron School of Law in Akron, Ohio, including certificates in trial advocacy and dispute resolution.
