Louis Stokes Cleveland VA Medical Center to unveil renovated emergency department
PRESS RELEASE
February 6, 2024
CLEVELAND , OH — VA Northeast Ohio Healthcare System leadership hosted a ribbon-cutting ceremony to unveil its renovated emergency department at Louis Stokes Cleveland VA Medical Center Feb. 6, 2024.
The ceremony marks the conclusion of the first stage of the emergency department’s renovation project, which began more than three years ago. The newly opened unit will start receiving patients at 5 a.m. Feb. 7.
Upgrades include the construction of larger treatment rooms to allow for more comprehensive care and areas outfitted for cardiac monitoring to accommodate more acute patients, along with the installation of improved seating for families and visitors. Renovations also provide increased capacity for negative pressure rooms – resources often utilized for COVID-19 patients.
Construction will soon begin on the project’s second phase, which will result in an increase in treatment rooms providing a larger capacity to serve its Veteran patient population.
With more than 23,000 visits last fiscal year and a 21-percent admission rate, the emergency department serves as the “front door” of the medical center. It is a Level 1 geriatric-accredited emergency department within the five-star Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services-rated VANEOHS healthcare system.
