Steve Sample MS, FACHE, CHC

The Northern Arizona VA Health Care System is a Joint Commission-accredited, 220-bed complexity level three facility serving approximately 34,000 Veterans across a catchment area of more than 65,000 square miles across Northern Arizona. 

Prior to that, Mr. Sample served as the Interim Medical Center Director for NAVAHCS from August 2, 2021, through March 29, 2022. He also served as NAVAHCS Associate Director from July 2021 to August 2022. 
Prior to arriving in Prescott, he served as the Assistant Director for the Southern Arizona VA Health Care System in Tucson. Mr. Sample is a 2017 graduate of Leadership VA (LVA) and the Health Care Leadership 
Development Program (HCLDP). 

Mr. Sample began his VA career at the Southern Arizona VA in 2007 and gained central office experience as the team lead for the Office of Compliance and Business Integrity's Consultation and Assessment  Section under VHA’s Quality, Safety and Value. 

Prior to his tenure with the VA, Mr. Sample served in a variety of leadership and operational positions, completing 23 years of commissioned service in the Air Force. He was a command pilot and flew combat missions during Operations Desert Storm and was the deployed commander of a combat expeditionary flying squadron during Operation Allied Force. Mr. Sample is a graduate of the Air War College and Air Command and Staff College.
