Gynecology (GYN) Self-Referral
The Gynecology (GYN) Self-Referral process is a Nationally implemented process that allows women Veterans to self-refer for gynecological appointments, without requiring a referral from their primary care provider.
To be eligible for gynecology self-referral, women Veteran must meet all the following criteria:
- Be enrolled in the VA NIHCS; and
- Be eligible for GYN services
It is recommended that women Veterans be assigned to a PACT or have a primary care provider established through VA Care in the Community. Women requesting GYN services who are not enrolled in the VA NIHCS are to be directed to the local enrollment and eligibility office to facilitate enrollment.
Women Veterans with special eligibilities for GYN care based on service connection or other factors will continue to follow existing processes to schedule appointments. Women Veterans may be charged copays for VA GYN services depending on their service-connected disability ratings and income. Veterans can contact the revenue department at their VA facility if they have questions about copays.
