Semiannual Reports to Congress

April 1 - September 30, 2017

The Semiannual Report to Congress summarizes the results of OIG oversight, provides statistical information, and lists all reports issued April 1–September 30, 2017. During this reporting period, OIG audits, investigations, inspections, evaluations, and other reviews identified over $9 billion in monetary benefits for a return of $134 for every dollar invested in OIG oversight. During this reporting period, OIG issued 194 reports and work products on VA programs and operations, made 898 recommendations, and conducted investigations that led to 162 arrests. View Report

The Semiannual Report to Congress summarizes the results of OIG oversight, provides statistical information, and lists all reports issued October 1, 2016–March 31, 2017. During this reporting period, OIG audits, investigations, inspections, evaluations, and other reviews identified over $974 million in monetary benefits for a return of $14 for every dollar invested in OIG oversight. During this reporting period, OIG issued 115 reports and work products on VA programs and operations, made 273 recommendations, and conducted investigations that led to 150 arrests. View Report

The Semiannual Report to Congress summarizes the results of OIG oversight, provides statistical information, and lists all reports issued April 1–September 30, 2016. During this reporting period, OIG audits, investigations, inspections, evaluations, and other reviews identified over $3.3 billion in monetary benefits for a return of $55 for every dollar invested in OIG oversight. During this reporting period, OIG issued 179 reports and work products on VA programs and operations, made 628 recommendations, and conducted investigations that led to 203 arrests. View Report

October 1, 2015 - March 31, 2016

The Semiannual Report to Congress summarizes the results of OIG oversight, provides statistical information, and lists all reports issued October 1, 2015–March 31, 2016. During this reporting period, OIG audits, investigations, inspections, evaluations, and other reviews identified over $783 million in monetary benefits for a return of $13 for every dollar invested in OIG oversight. This reduction in return on investment from the preceding reporting period is not unexpected given that OIG continues to focus a significant portion of our resources on reviewing allegations related to wait time manipulation. This work generally does not result in a monetary benefit; rather, it focuses on improving access to health care for veterans. During this reporting period, OIG issued 158 reports and work products on VA programs and operations, made 741 recommendations, and conducted investigations that led to 185 arrests. View Report

The Semiannual Report to Congress summarizes the results of OIG oversight, provides statistical information, and lists all reports issued April 1–September 30, 2015. During this reporting period, OIG audits, investigations, inspections, evaluations, and other reviews identified over $1 billion in monetary benefits for a return of $18 for every dollar invested in OIG oversight. OIG issued 216 reports and 11 memoranda on VA programs and operations. OIG investigations led to 209 arrests, and OIG investigative work and Hotline activity oversight resulted in 660 administrative sanctions and corrective actions. View Report

The Semiannual Report to Congress summarizes the results of OIG oversight, provides statistical information, and lists all reports issued October 1, 2014–March 31, 2015. During this reporting period, OIG audits, investigations, inspections, evaluations, and other reviews identified nearly $1.17 billion in monetary benefits for a return of $21 for every dollar invested in OIG oversight. OIG issued 174 reports and 9 memoranda on VA programs and operations. OIG investigations led to 188 arrests, and OIG investigative work and Hotline activity oversight resulted in 605 administrative sanctions and corrective actions. View Report

During this reporting period, OIG audits, investigations, inspections, evaluations, and other reviews identified nearly $1.59 billion in monetary benefits for a return of $31 for every dollar invested in OIG oversight. OIG issued 195 reports and 22 memoranda on VA programs and operations. OIG investigations led to 288 arrests, and OIG investigative work and Hotline activity oversight resulted in 587 administrative sanctions and corrective actions. View Report

During this reporting period, OIG audits, investigations, inspections, evaluations, and other reviews identified over $712 million in monetary benefits for a return of $14 for every dollar invested in OIG oversight. OIG issued 115 reports and 18 memoranda on VA programs and operations. OIG investigations led to 208 arrests, and OIG investigative work and Hotline activity oversight resulted in 566 administrative sanctions and corrective actions. View Report

During this reporting period, OIG audits, investigations, inspections, evaluations, and other reviews identified over $1.93 billion in monetary benefits for a return of $39 for every dollar invested in OIG oversight. OIG issued 185 reports on VA programs and operations. OIG investigations led to 246 arrests, and OIG investigative work and Hotline activity oversight resulted in 552 administrative sanctions and corrective actions. View Report

During this reporting period, OIG audits, investigations, inspections, evaluations, and other reviews identified over $1.65 billion in monetary benefits for a return of $33 for every dollar invested in OIG oversight.
