Melissa Sundin has served as the Acting Deputy Director of the Orlando VA Healthcare System since April 2024.
Prior to her selection as Acting Deputy Director, Ms. Sundin was the Associate Director of the James A. Haley Veterans’ Hospital and Clinics since August 2016. Her extensive VA career began in 1987 at the Lexington, Kentucky VA Medical Center as an Industrial Engineer to the Office of the Director. Ms. Sundin assists and advises the leadership team in a broad range of matters which align with her extensive experience as an engineer. She advises and consults with the medical center staff and community partners on issues concerning Veteran care, facility management, environmental management, health administration, corporate space planning, and facility safety. She is instrumental in community partnerships and structuring long-term strategic planning.
Ms. Sundin has significant experience in hospital leadership. She served as the Interim Director of the West Palm Beach VA Medical Center. She also served as the Associate Director for the Erie, Pennsylvania VA Medical Center and later, as the Interim Director for the same facility. Further, she served as Vice President of Facilities Management at the Pittsburgh VA Medical Center. Ms. Sundin received her Bachelor of Science in Industrial Engineering from West Virginia University in Morgantown, West Virginia.
