Efner Reyes has been appointed as the Deputy Nurse Executive for Nursing Operations at VA Palo Alto health care, effective March 24, 2024.
In his new role, he is responsible for Nursing Acute Care Hospital Operations, Evidence-Based Practice/Research Innovation, and Nursing Operations, including Clinical Practice and Professional Development, Nurse Recruiters, and Staffing Office.
Mr. Efner Reyes, MSN, RN, started his VA career at VA Palo Alto health care in 2007. He completed nursing school and was accepted into the VA New Grad program in the Intermediate Intensive Care Unit. By 2012, he was given an opportunity and began his path in leadership being promoted to Assistant Nurse Manager of Medical Surgery in unit 2A. In 2013, he became the Nurse Manager of 2A, where he remained until 2019 when he was promoted to Assistant Chief Nurse Medical/Surgical for Acute Care Hospital Operations. In 2020, Mr. Reyes was selected as the Assistant Chief for Ambulatory Care Nursing (ACC). In 2021, he was promoted to the Chief Nurse of ACC. Finally, Mr. Reyes recently served as the Interim Deputy Nurse Executive for Clinical Operations from August 2023 through December 2023.
Mr. Reyes completed his Master of Science in Nursing Management and Leadership from American Sentinel University in 2017 and his Bachelor of Science in Nursing from California State University, East Bay (CSUEB). Mr. Reyes was recognized by CSUEB as a recipient of the “50 Cal State East Bay Notable Nurses” award in 2023 and continues to mentor students in the nursing program at CSUEB on a yearly basis.
He remains active in several committees and several process improvement events within our health care system. Mr. Reyes is a graduate of the VISN 21 Leadership Development Institute Program in 2019. He is a LEAN Six Sigma Black Belt. Additionally, in 2017 he graduated from the Stanford Clinical Effectiveness Leadership Training. Mr. Reyes is an avid servant and transformational leader, passionate about serving our Veterans, and looks forward to contributing to fostering leadership throughout VA Palo Alto health care.
