Health Promotion and Disease Prevention (HPDP)
Healthy living matters. Prevention works. The Health Promotion and Disease Prevention (HPDP) Program at VA Poplar Bluff Health Care is dedicated to helping Veterans achieve and maintain their best possible health. Through education, evidence-based preventive services, and healthy lifestyle resources, we empower Veterans to take an active role in preventing disease, managing health risks, and improving overall well-being.
Healthy living and disease prevention
Healthy living
Healthy living is about making informed choices that support your physical, mental, and emotional health. The HPDP Program provides Veterans with evidence-based education and resources to help them build lifelong healthy habits.
Our program promotes healthy living through education and support in areas such as:
- Nutrition and healthy eating
- Physical activity and exercise
- Weight management
- Tobacco and nicotine cessation
- Stress management and emotional well-being
- Sleep health
- Healthy aging
- Whole Health and self-care strategies
Whether you're looking to improve your current health or reduce your risk of chronic disease, we're here to connect you with the tools and resources you need to succeed.
Disease prevention
Preventive care plays a vital role in staying healthy and identifying potential health concerns before they become serious. The HPDP Program works to increase awareness of recommended preventive services and encourages Veterans to stay current with evidence-based screenings, immunizations, and preventive care.
Our program supports preventive health initiatives including:
- Cancer screenings (such as colorectal, breast, cervical, and lung cancer screening)
- Cardiovascular disease prevention
- Diabetes prevention and early detection
- Recommended adult immunizations
- Infectious disease prevention
- Health risk assessments and preventive health education
By staying up to date on recommended preventive services, Veterans can reduce their risk of disease, detect conditions earlier, and improve long-term health outcomes.
