Dr. Sahana Misra was appointed as the VA Portland Health Care System (VAPORHCS) Chief of Staff (COS) in September 2018.
Dr. Misra earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Honors Biology from the University of Illinois in Urbana-Champaign and her MD from Rush Medical College. Dr. Misra was a resident and chief resident in Psychiatry at Rush Presbyterian-St. Luke’s Medical Center in Chicago, Illinois, and a geriatric psychiatry fellow at Oregon Health and Science University (OHSU). She is board certified in Psychiatry and Geriatric Psychiatry.
Dr. Misra began her VA career as a staff psychiatrist in 1998 and served as the Chief of Psychiatry and Clinical Director for the Mental Health Division from 2014-2016. She became Chief of Staff in 2016. She is a professor of psychiatry and associate dean for Veterans Affairs at OHSU.
Previous accomplishments include serving as VA IRB chair, Associate Director of the OHSU psychiatry and geropsychiatry residency training programs and serving as an executive council member for the American Association of Directors of Psychiatry Residency Training. A VA Cooperative Studies Career Development Award recipient, she has since published several articles on decisional capacity in vulnerable patients. She completed the VHA Health Care Leadership Development Program (HCLDP) in 2017.
Currently, Dr. Misra is a member of the National VA Chief of Staff Advisory Council and a member of the American College of Psychiatrists.
