Michelle Bird was selected as the deputy associate director for VA Puget Sound Health Care System Patient Care Services in August 2022.
Her entire nursing career has been dedicated to the Veterans Health Administration. Before joining VA Puget Sound’s executive leadership team, she was the director of nursing for Acute Care (since 2018). Prior to joining VA Puget Sound, she began her career as a student nurse technician at George E. Wahlen VA Medical Center (Salt Lake City, Utah) in 2001. She then became a charge nurse/educator for the Medicine-Oncology Unit and the Medical Intensive Care Unit, the nurse manager for Specialty Care Clinics and in March 2017 was named the deputy nurse executive.
Ms. Bird completed her Bachelor of Science in Nursing in 2003 from Westminster College and Master of Science in Nursing Administration in 2012 from Weber State University. She is an American Nurses Credentialing Center nationally certified nurse executive, reflecting her commitment to nursing excellence and quality patient outcomes. She also currently serves as the membership chair for the local “Mountain to Sound Chapter” of the American Association of Critical Care Nurses.
Ms. Bird and her husband, Ben, relocated to the Pacific Northwest in 2018 – a life-long dream of theirs. She has a special connection in caring for Veterans, and doing all that she can to ensure the delivery of safe, quality care. She is very excited about her new VA Puget Sound leadership role and the opportunities it brings.
