Focus on a healthy lifestyle
All women Veterans need to be thinking about their heart health.
Women Veterans should make sure to get their blood pressure, blood sugar, and cholesterol checked to “know their numbers,” because these factors can increase the risk of heart disease. Increased stress due to some mental health concerns like PTSD and depression, and experiences of trauma can also increase heart disease risk for women of all ages, including younger women. Your VA primary care team can help you understand your risks and learn ways to protect your heart.
