The Vietnam War Veterans Recognition Act of 2017 has designated March 29th as National Vietnam War Veterans Day.

On this day in 1973, the United States Military Assistance Command, Vietnam was disestablished, and the last U.S. combat troops left Vietnam. Hanoi also released the last of its acknowledged prisoners of war around the same time. The United States of America Vietnam War Commemoration honors all Veterans who served on active duty in the U.S. Armed Forces at any time from November 1, 1955, to May 15, 1975, regardless of their location during that time. Today, approximately 6.7 million men and nearly 300 thousand women, a total of around seven million people, who served from November 1, 1955, to May 15, 1975, are living in America and abroad. We express our gratitude for their service to our country and say, "Welcome home!"
