Dr. Chandan Takkar joined the South Texas Veterans Health Care System (STVHCS) in 2021 as a Staff Nephrologist.
She also maintains an adjunct Associate Professor appointment with UT Health, San Antonio, and serves as the Quality Improvement Champion for the Division of Nephrology. As a staff Nephrologist, she led the rebuild/revamping of the kidney transplant program for STVHCS.
Dr. Takkar was appointed as the acting Chief of Quality for STVHCS in June 2022. In this role, she oversees the departments of patient safety, quality management, systems engineering and planning, performance and development.
Prior to joining STVHCS, Dr. Takkar served as Associate Professor and Clinical Chief of Nephrology for UT Health, SA.
She completed her Internal Medicine Residency in 2009 at UTMB, Galveston, and then served as a Chief Resident (2009-2010, Department of Medicine, UTMB, Galveston) before completing her Clinical Nephrology Fellowship (2010-2012, UTMB, Galveston).
Dr. Takkar is a graduate of the Clinical Safety and Effectiveness course, UT Health, Class of 2016, and Executive Development Program, UTSA, School of Business, Class of 2021.
