Heritage is invaluable to Veterans of every generation, and the same could be said of the Southwest San Antonio community, who showed up in force to celebrate the new Southwest Military VA Clinic on November 9.

Not only was this a time to bask in the presence of a new clinic, but it was also an opportunity for South Texas Veterans Health Care System to honor Veterans Day and those who gave of themselves selflessly to defend our country.

In the heart of San Antonio’s Southwest side, this new clinic offers its Veterans a larger, more modernized space to receive their care, from primary care and mental health to laboratory services and telehealth.

As South Texas is home to one of the fastest growing health care systems in the United States, John Mendoza, Deputy Medical Center Director was truly appreciative of the community support and of all in attendance who came to celebrate this new clinic.

“It’s our job, our responsibility, to serve Veterans, their families, caregivers, and survivors as well as they’ve served us, as well as they’ve served our country,” Mendoza said. “Not just on Veterans Day, but every day.”

The opening of this new clinic not only emphasizes South Texas’ commitment to this particular community of Veterans, but also its dedication in ensuring that the best quality of care is provided in convenient locations, he shared.

“All Veterans deserve timely access to world-class health care and benefits, and we will never settle for anything less,” Mendoza said. “We consider it an honor and a privilege to provide the care to the Veterans we serve and who depend on us for their healthcare.”

The new clinic continues to see patients from the previous location, supporting two Patient Aligned Care Teams that assist Veterans with annual health exams, immunizations, chronic disease management, and more. This clinic provides additional services, such as Women’s Health and Pathology and Laboratory services.

Dr. Scott Wise, President and CEO for Valor Healthcare, was pleased to see this new clinic already open and staff providing care in the modernized setting.

“This facility is the most spectacular CBOC Valor Healthcare has ever built for Veterans,” he shared, “and it’s here in the Southwest Military location.”

Valor Healthcare Inc. partners with VA health care systems across the country and currently operates more than 50 locations, caring for almost 170,000 Veterans.

“You are going to meet an incredible staff who runs this clinic. Our folks, because of their professionalism, could work anywhere in this healthcare community that they choose, and they choose to come work with Veterans because they have a passion for what we do. And a passion for giving back to those who served,” he shared.

Just moments before the official ribbon cutting, Mendoza emphasized the importance of community partnerships, such as South Texas’ with Valor, and how each one enhances the healthcare services provided to San Antonio Veterans.

“I want to express my deep appreciation and sincere gratitude to all our staff who worked tirelessly to make this clinic a reality,” he said. “To our VALOR team who stand ready to treat our patients and ensure that our Nation’s Heroes receive the best care possible. Thank you for partnering with VA and sharing the mission of providing world class service to Veterans.”
