The Southern Arizona Healthcare System’s Mobile Medial Unit (MMU) has arrived.

SAVAHCS homeless patient aligned care team (HPACT) will be able to go out and do more outreach to a designated population of Veterans.

“For those Veterans who aren't willing to come onto campus, it gives us the ability to go out and take care of them,” said Vaughan, Lucretia, Associate Chief of Staff, Mental Health. “Our goal will be to build trust between unsheltered Veterans and VA.”

HPACT will go out to our transitional housing units and expand to some of the homeless camps.

The next step to getting the MMU on the road is training. “We’ve got to get our staff trained up and used to driving it and familiar with operating the medical equipment on the inside,” said Vaughn. “We still have to get a little bit of some medical stuff equipped, because it didn't come fully, fully equipped.”

Dr. Peter Reding and his primary care HPACT team will be manning and operating the MMU. They anticipate that the maiden voyage with happen in about 2-weeks.
