New Director Selected for Rome Veterans Affairs Outpatient Clinic

Syracuse , NY — Syracuse VA Medical Center has announced the appointment of Dr. Michael P. Kenney, DO as the new Director of the Donald J. Mitchell Department of Veterans Affairs Outpatient Clinic in Rome, NY.

The Clinic, located at 125 Brookley Road, building 510 in Rome, provides health care and other related services to more than 6,000 Veterans and is the largest of the Syracuse VA Medical Center’s seven such care locations.

 

Dr. Kenney served in the United States Air Force and will retire as a Colonel in July 2023 after 23 years of active military service. His Air Force career includes service as a prior enlisted aircraft avionics technician at Griffiss AFB in the 1990’s.

 

After an internal medicine residency in Binghamton, Dr. Kenney transitioned back to active duty serving as an internist stationed at various bases around the world at both clinic and hospital-based settings.  His most recent and final military position was that of senior Flight Surgeon and Chief of Aeromedical services at Hancock Field in Syracuse, leading the way for the health and preventative medical needs of the entire Wing population with a particular focus on the flying community.

 

Aside from providing standard internal medicine and osteopathic manipulation skills, he is also certified in Battlefield Acupuncture, which he used extensively while on active duty and looks forward to eventually employing at the Rome clinic.

 

Dr. Kenney earned his undergraduate degree at Utica College, and his medical degree at the Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine. He and his family live in Fayetteville, NY.
