VA Beneficiary Travel Updates

Travel Reimbursement

On Monday, April 10, 2023, the President signed into law H.J. Res. 7 which ended the national emergency related to the COVID-19 pandemic.

With the COVID-19 national emergency ending, “Suspension of Veterans Health Administration (VHA) Connections Activities and Extension of VHA Claim and Appeal Filing Deadlines” also ends on June 9, 2023, 60 days after the end of the emergency period defined in 42 U.S.C. 1320b5(g)(1).

How does this impact the Beneficiary Travel Program?

Effective June 9, 2023, Veterans submitting a claim for travel reimbursement must submit it within 30 days of their VA medical appointment in accordance with 38 Code of Federal Regulations (CFR) §70.20.

Apply Online for Travel Reimbursement

Beneficiary travel claims can now be submitted online through the Beneficiary Travel Self-Service System. This electronic system makes it convenient for Veterans or their designated caregiver to submit a claim online and helps speed up reimbursement. To find out if you are eligible, visit the Beneficiary Travel Self-Service System site and then visit access.va.gov and select the Veteran Travel Claim Entry icon to get started. You will then be able to choose to log on using a DS-Logon Level 2 account, with a VA PIV card, with ID.me or with your My HealtheVet credentials.
