Dr. Colleen E. Jakey was named Chief of Staff at James. A. Haley Veterans’ Hospital in May 2018.

She has served at JAHVH since July 2013 as the assistant chief of surgery and section chief for general surgery, and as the Associate Chief of Staff for Education and Deputy Chief of Staff.

She is also an Associate Professor of Surgery and the Associate Program Director in Surgery for the General Surgery residency in the Department of Surgery at the University of South Florida (USF) Morsani College of Medicine. Dr. Jakey is Board Certified in General Surgery by the American Board of Surgery.

Dr. Jakey earned a Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy at Philadelphia College of Pharmacy and Science, Philadelphia, PA in 1991 and her medical degree from the University of Maryland School of Medicine, Baltimore, MD in 1995. In 2002, she completed General Surgery residency with an integrated, two-year research fellowship studying inflammatory mediators in acute pancreatitis at the University of South Florida.

After finishing residency, she was appointed as an Assistant Professor of Surgery in the USF Department of Surgery, practicing Trauma, Critical Care, and General Surgery at Tampa General Hospital.

She began her VA career at Bay Pines VA Healthcare System as a General Surgeon and Co-Director of the Surgical Intensive Care Unit in November 2004 and in June 2010 was appointed Assistant Chief of Surgery at Bay Pines.

Dr. Jakey is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons and is currently on staff as a General Surgeon at James A. Haley Veterans’ Hospital and Clinics.
