Veteran nominates nurse for international award for 'special' care
Megan Pichette, a registered nurse at Tennessee Valley Healthcare System, was recently honored with The DAISY Award For Extraordinary Nurses. The award recognizes the super-human efforts nurses perform every day.
An inpatient Veteran at the TVHS Nashville VA campus nominated Pichette for the international award and described how her compassionate care made him feel at ease.
The nomination read, "Megan is a highly competent and professional nurse. What made my experience special is her listening skills and answering my questions openly and honestly. She anticipated my needs and provided excellent service before needing to ask for it. She went the extra mile in caring for my dietary needs during my trying times, in which eating was a chore.
Megan did the very special act of taking and doing my laundry when I was getting low in fresh clothes. Total dedication to her patients. When I exhibited concerns, her positivity and morale and upbeat attitude inspired me to keep going. Her communication skills are top notch and second to none. She attentively listens to all my questions and provides clear and concise answers. It is hard to feel at ease in a strange location, especially during COVID-19, but Megan just naturally puts one at ease through her caring and loving attitude. This VA hospital is very fortunate to have a nurse like her caring for us veterans. Thank you to Megan and to all the other nurses, staff, doctors, techs, support personnel... you are a blessing, and we are grateful to you taking care of us."
To earn The DAISY Award, nurses are nominated by anyone – staff, patient, leadership, patients’ family members – who experiences or observes extraordinary compassionate care being provided by a nurse.
