Explore the rich heritage of the VA Texas Valley Healthcare System.

VA Texas Valley Coastal Bend Health Care System

The VA Texas Valley Coastal Bend Health Care System (VATVCBHCS) activated as an independent VA Health Care System in October 1, 2010 as the Department of Veterans Affairs newest VA Health Care System.

In June 2011, the transfer of patient electronic medical records from the South Texas Veterans Health Care System (STVHCS) for the activation of the VATVCBHCS Computerized Patient Record System (CPRS) occurred.

Most recently in FY 2023, VATVCBHCS activated the West Point Clinic in Corpus Christi Clinic (CCWPC) and two Mobile Medical Units (MMU), bringing healthcare to Veterans in eight of the most rural communities in the area.

We encompass 20 counties in deep South Texas and encompasses the Laredo, McAllen, Harlingen, and Corpus Christi Outpatient Clinic service areas.

The Health Care for Homeless Veterans Program (HCHV) continues to provide outreach to all areas shelters and established referral sources to maintain contact with any new Veterans presenting for services.

VATVCBHCS offers evidence-based treatments for PTSD which teach Veterans skills for processing their traumatic experiences. These gold standard treatments allow Veterans to accept and honor the memory of those past events but still move forward and re-engage in their lives.

VATVCBHCS is an outpatient services health care system. Our core competencies are Primary Care, Mental Health, Geriatrics and some Specialty Care.
