Baby Showers for expecting Mothers
The Tuscaloosa VAMC holds baby shower in January and July for over 35 expecting Veterans a year. Veterans Affairs officials say physical and mental health conditions can increase the risk of poor pregnancy outcomes and maternal mortality. The baby showers are designed to support pregnant veterans and help them avoid pregnancy complications and maternal mortality. During the baby showers the Veterans are able to develop their support network by meeting other expecting Veterans and connecting face-to-face with the Tuscaloosa VAMC Maternity Care Coordinator and Women’s health team, who monitor their physical and mental health during and for one year after pregnancies. Veterans who participate leave with dozens of items they need to care for themselves and their newborn babies.
