PRESS RELEASE
July 7, 2023
Wilmington , DE — On Friday, July 14, from 11:00 am – 2:00 pm the Wilmington VA Medical Center and Veteran Benefits Administration Wilmington Regional Office, supported by New Castle County’s Carousel Park and Equestrian Center will host a Veteran Family Fun Day and Claims Clinic event.
Veterans can bring their families to enjoy the day - free of charge! Enjoy hay wagon rides, face paintings, caricature drawings, horse barn tours, New Castle County Mounted Patrol Unit, water ice, and much more. A food truck will be available to purchase food items. In addition, the following resources will be available to Veterans and Service members - PACT Act brief, VBA Claims Clinic, Toxic Exposure Screenings, VA tables to include, Homeless and Veterans Justice Outreach, Whole Health, Women’s Health, Patient Advocacy, Enrollment, Nutrition and much more! Additional information about New Castle County Department of Community Services’ programs will be on display.
The event is to promote family fun and bring awareness to Service members, Veterans, their families, caregivers, and surviving spouses of additional resources available to them because of the PACT Act.
The PACT Act is a new law that expands VA health care and benefits for Veterans exposed to burn pits, Agent Orange, and other toxic substances and adds to the list of health conditions that we presume are caused by exposure to these substances. Under the PACT Act, if you file your claim before Aug 10, 2023 and if it is approved, you will be back paid to August 10, 2022.
For anyone interested in learning about how the PACT Act can benefit them – a Veterans Town Hall will be held at 11:15am in the main courtyard at Carousel Park. For Veterans or surviving spouses interested in filing a disability claim, a team of Claims Clinic specialists will be ready to assist on-site.
