Christopher J. Buscema was appointed as the Associate Director of Operations at the James E. Van Zandt VA Medical Center (VAMC) on July 31, 2023.

As Associate Director of Operations  Mr. Buscema oversees a wide range of critical operational areas, including Logistics, Capital Assets, Finance, Facilities and Biomedical Engineering, Environmental Management, Healthcare Administration Service, Safety and Emergency Management, Privacy, and the Center for Development and Civic Engagement.

Before joining the James E. Van Zandt VAMC, Mr. Buscema served as the Chief of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Service at the Eastern Colorado Healthcare System, where he managed a large-scale clinical service comprising over 150 staff and delivering more than 100,000 inpatient and outpatient encounters annually.

With over 20 years of leadership experience across the Department of Veterans Affairs and the Department of Defense, Mr. Buscema has held various key positions. Prior to joining VA in 2012, he served as a civilian in the Army Medical Department, where he held roles including Battalion Physical Therapist at the Europe Regional Medical Command - Warrior Transition Battalion in Heidelberg, Germany, and Chief of Rehabilitation at the U.S. Army Health Center in Vicenza, Italy.

Mr. Buscema holds a Master of Business Administration from Plymouth State University, a Doctor of Physical Therapy from the University of St. Augustine for Health Sciences, and a Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro.  He is a Fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives, a certified Lean Six Sigma Green Belt, and a graduate of the Federal Executive Institute.
