Ms. Berndt joined VA Ann Arbor Healthcare System as Associate Director of Patient Care Services on February 14, 2022

Prior to joining Veteran’s Hospital in Ann Arbor, Ms. Berndt has had many years of nursing leadership experience at Henry Ford Health System, Beaumont Health System, and at 3 different free-standing psychiatric hospitals.  She has also been adjunct faculty teaching both medical-surgical clinical rotations and pathophysiology at Henry Ford Community College.

In addition to teaching, Ms. Berndt has also presented at several nursing conferences.  Her various accomplishments over the years have been implementing a shared governance structure, improving employee engagement scores and staff retention rates, decreasing wait times in the emergency department and improving patient throughput times, decreasing the use of seclusion and physical restraints in the inpatient psychiatric setting, and re-designing orientation/on-boarding training programs for newly hired staff.  

Ms. Berndt received a Diploma in Nursing from Henry Ford Hospital School of Nursing, a BSN from Wayne State University, and her MSN with a specialty in Nursing Administration from the University of Detroit Mercy. She is currently working on her Doctoral degree at Madonna University.  She has been certified as an Advanced Nurse Executive since 2012.
