VA Augusta Blind Rehab team launches podcast for blind Veterans

PRESS RELEASE

March 12, 2024

Augusta , GA — VA Augusta Health Care System’s Blind Rehabilitation Service has launched “Blind Vet: Now What?”, a locally produced podcast for Veterans adjusting to vision loss, as well as those people who make up their support system.

“Vision loss is a huge life change, and it can feel outright overwhelming,” said Ashley Boyer, a blind rehabilitation specialist at VA Augusta. “Our goal is to provide education and support as they navigate this new way of life. We figured what better way to reach the blind Veteran community than a conversational, down-to-earth podcast.”

Hosted by Boyer and Rebecca Foley, another VA Augusta blind rehab specialist, the “Blind Vet: Now What?” podcast includes not only discussions about timely issues impacting the blind Veteran community but also interviews with blind Veterans and the health care experts who regularly work with Veterans experiencing vision loss.

“We just released our third episode, and it features an interview with an Army Veteran who, after experiencing vision loss, went back to school to become a VA blind rehab instructor,” said Foley. “It’s just inspiring and encouraging to sit down with people who turn their challenging experiences into opportunities to serve others.”

Veterans and their supporters wanting to tune in can search for “Blind Vet: Now What?” on Apple, Spotify, and Amazon podcast platforms.
