October 13, 2023

Augusta , GA — To celebrate survivors and encourage early detection, VA Augusta will host two events later this month in support of Breast Cancer Awareness Month:

VA Augusta Health Care System Women’s Health and Mammography Services wants to put a face to the fight against breast cancer. To celebrate survivors and encourage early detection, VA Augusta will host two events later this month in support of Breast Cancer Awareness Month:
Noon, Friday, Oct. 20: The Faces Who Fight Cancer (photo op)
Veteran breast cancer fighters and survivors are encouraged to stop by for a group photo at our Uptown campus (1 Freedom Way in Augusta, outside 3rd floor auditorium). To date, VA Augusta has imaged and detected more than 80 cases of cancer. Many of the survivors will come together to show the real impact of early detection, annual mammography, and breast cancer awareness.
7 a.m. – 3:30 p.m., Wed., Oct. 25: Breast Cancer Rodeo (walk-in mammograms)
Women Veterans are encouraged to participate in walk-in mammograms during VA Augusta’s “Breast Cancer Rodeo” at the Uptown campus (1 Freedom Way in Augusta). During the rodeo, Veterans who are due for their annual screening and are registered for care with VA Augusta can get a walk-in mammogram without an appointment. Veterans can also call 706-733-0188, ext. 26533 or 26207, to confirm they are due for a screening or discuss other breast health issues.
Women Veterans are one of the fastest-growing Veteran groups in America. Now over two million strong, women Veterans have unique experiences as both service members and Veteran patients. To meet the needs of this growing population, VA Augusta continues to expand its opportunities for access to women’s health care.
“We emphasize early detection, early detection, early detection,” said Kutistia Ragland, VA Augusta Mammography Team Lead. “Veterans are choosing VA Augusta for their breast health care because we know and understand the Veteran community.”
