On December 6, 2023, Veteran Everett Mason was awarded a standup paddleboard from Board For Our Heroes, sponsored by 4THE22.

Mason discovered a love for paddle boarding while on a leisure session with 4THE22 and Recreation Therapy.

Mason, an Army Veteran, discussed how the paddle board will help him progress in his health goals, including the mental health advantages of doing an activity he loves.

The board was presented to Mason by President of 4THE22 Josh Flath and former recipient Matthew MacLeod.

Recreational Therapy works with 4THE22 because they raise awareness of Veteran and first responder suicide rates through prevention activities. 4THE22 has helped many Veterans find balance through paddling, surfing, and other exercises.

Board For Our Heroes is 4THE22’s way of giving back in a more permanent way. Veterans are given a board of their own so they can expand their love of paddle boarding beyond 4THE22 events.

Battle Creek VAMC and 4THE22 are both excited to see Mason enjoying his time on the water more often and to support him in his health goals.
