Public can dispose of old and unused medication during VA Take Back Day

BOSTON , MA — Veterans, families, VA staff and members of the public can pick up free Mail-Back Envelopes to dispose of expired prescriptions, including controlled substances, at VA Boston Healthcare System main campuses during VA Take Back Day, Friday, Oct. 27, from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
VA is partnering with the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration, known as the DEA, welcoming Veterans and others in our communities to health facilities across the nation to safely dispose of old medication. Any member of the public is welcome, whether or not they have any affiliation to Veterans or VA.
“We’re pleased to welcome Veteran and members of our community to our Brockton, Jamaica Plain and West Roxbury campuses for VA Take Back Day,” said Vincent Ng, director of the VA Boston HCS. “It’s important to clean out our medicine cabinets regularly to dispose of medications and protect ourselves, our loved ones and our environment.”
Anyone who can’t participate in VA Take Back Day can use DEA’s Public Disposal Locations Search Tool to find year-round collection sites. DEA also holds twice-yearly take-back days. For more information, visit https://www.dea.gov/takebackday
Veterans enrolled for VA care can also bring their expired and unused medications to their VA site of care for disposal any time by contacting their local VA Police Service or VA Pharmacy.
